INDIVIUALITY… STYLE… VISION…
These are just three words that can be used to describe Tamara Delbridge. At the age of 25 she decided to quit her job as a visual manager for a small boutique to embark on a career in makeup. Although it was unknown territory to her, the idea of being able to create, transform and beautify models, actresses, singers, and everyday women not only intrigued her; it excited her. She managed to open doors that would have normally been closed to most new artists with her drive and passion. In three years her work has appeared on the cover of magazines, music videos, national ad campaigns, commercials, Indie films, and on network and cable television.
As a make-up artist, Tamara Delbridge, infuses individuality and style when creating unforgettable looks on some of today’s cutting edge celebrities including soulstress Angie Stone, R&B singer Sharissa, radio personality Wendy Williams, television personality Melyssa Ford and many others.
Her gifted hands have touched a variety of mediums from print to television to film. Whether gracing magazine covers, appearing in music videos or national ad campaigns, Tamara approaches each assignment as a work of art.
She discovered her calling when she landed a part-time position at the Fashion Fair counter at Bloomingdales. “I just loved the way one of my associates created these wonderful looks on her clients and I became interested in learning the craft,” says the New Jersey native.
After enrolling in The Learning Institute for the Beauty Sciences to understand the nuts and bolts of make-up, she honed her artistry under an apprenticeship with famed artist/photographer Daniel Green. He’s worked with industry bigwigs such as Whoopie Goldberg and B.Smith. “I learned many techniques from him that would have taken me years to learn on my own,” says Tamara.
She stays on top of her game by continuing her education. “Some makeup artists are ‘artist’ by nature,” she says, “but I feel that even ‘naturals’ would benefit from taking classes. The world of beauty is constantly evolving so you want to stay abreast of the current trends so that your makeup won’t look dated.
By following her passion, Tamara has traveled around the world, whether it’s to be on location on a film set or on the road with musical artists. I never thought that I would be in control of my own destiny but I am,” confesses Tamara. “My hands, my eyes, and my mind combine to create and enhance the beauty that all my clients possess and through that happiness is inevitable.”
Tamara has also been named beauty editor for JEWEL magazine. Consider this only the first chapter in a book capturing Tamara’s dynamic life. Her projection is to produce a lifestyle show for women of color, and expanding her client roster of Hollywood elite, fashion icons, and music industry hit-makers. Until then, she plans to keep it real by to approaching every situation with morality and professionalism. Add her talent to the mix and you have a combination that can’t lose!
