New York City, 1985; fashion photographer Luis Guillén was born to Dominican parents. A year later his family moved to Dominican Republic where Guillén completed his studies all throughout high school. Luis spent his younger years developing his love for the arts mostly through drawing, painting, music and later on photography. Nature and light have always played a major role in his appreciation for beauty.
In 2003, Guillén moved to the U.S. where he enrolled in the Visual Communications Program (graphic design) at Kean University. He enjoyed working part time at the Art History slide photo department at Kean, while at the same time he loved doing photoshoots for models’ portfolios in NYC. Guillén was fortunate to have Donald Lokuta, great American photographer, as his photography teacher and mentor. At one point Donald himself suggested Luis to fully pursue a photography career in fashion.
Shortly after college graduation Luis moved to NYC where his brief fashion experience landed him jobs with Diane Von Furstenberg (DVF), SAKS Fifth Avenue, Bill Blass, and numerous National and International fashion publications.
Today Luis Guillén photographs all aspects in fashion, yet his strength lies in beauty, commercial work (advertising) and portraiture.
